Word Clouds

I came across this website called Wordle. With Wordle you can insert any number of words and text that you wish and it will generate a conglomeration of those words in any color, size, a few fonts, and arrangement you wish. I inserted my blog URL into the Wordle app and it generated the graphic […]

Judge Gideon

After learning about Judge Deborah last week, you would think that the Israelites would realize that if they OBEYED and followed God, then their lives would be what God wants for them: to be His light to the nations as His kind of people. Sadly, the Israelites choose to do evil in the sight of […]

“The Bible” Statement

This year in Middle School Youth (msy YOUTH) on Wednesday evenings, we have been walking through the stories of the Bible… trying to unpack the statement above about God, his plan to fix this world using his particular kind of special people in order to make (or remake) his kind of world. We’ve created and […]

Comparing and Competing

Sari started gymnastics a little over a week ago. She did great! The class is called: “Tumbling with Tots” which means that parents get to tumble/coach with their aspiring gymnast. It’s really fun! Sari got to jump and balance and climb and fall. After the first class I was processing my behavior and thoughts while […]

Birthday Party

Sari has been using this one line lately when she is either frustrated with her parents or excited with her parents. It’s about her birthday, which isn’t until February. If Sari is excited she’ll say: “YEAH! Thank you! You can come to my birthday party!” If she’s mad she’ll say: “You CAN’T come to my […]

Embrace Life (video)

Who would have ever thought that an ad for wearing your seatbelt could be so beautiful, cinematic and stir so many emotions? I have been really enjoying the blog over @ iblogo lately. I really appreciate their content and ideas and the thoughts they generate and questions they ask. The two guys, Mark and Kelly, […]

How To Build Community

I spent a large part of my day on Thursday (10.14.10) reading, searching, perusing blogs, watching, cataloging, etc on the internet. I don’t usually get time to do that, but it really sparks my creativity as well as ideas of what is being done “out there” in the world, and what are things we can […]

The Internet (infographic)

I am always amazed at the “vastness” and implicit impact the internet (and its subsidiaries) are having on humanity and our behavior. Check out this “infographic” below: HT Imago

Hayride @ the Yoder’s Event (video)

Last Sunday evening (10.10.10), we took the Followers (Kindergarten through 5th grade) out to the Yoder’s property and had a hayride available for half the group, while the other half ran through the cornfield, bobbed for apples, stuffed a scarecrow, and ran around. Then we switched groups. Then we had a campfire with smores and […]

Cup Stacking // Minute to Win It Game

The last several weeks we have been playing “Minute to Win It” games at msy YOUTH (middle school youth group @ Hayward Wesleyan), which is where the contestant has to accomplish a task in 60 seconds or less. I happen to be standing in the A/V booth last Wednesday and thought it would be fun […]

LIVE Worship Videos for Children

I’ve been working on uploading some videos of the kids @ Hayward Wesleyan singing the various worship/music videos we use to sing during VBS and Kids Camp this past summer. While you can visit the Vimeo video channel for LIVE Worship Videos for Children anytime now and in the future for more and more updated […]

Toys, Toys, Toys!

Last night, Amanda had a bold plan: she wanted to go through ALL the girls toys. The plan was to organize the ones we wanted to keep and throw out or donate the ones the girls had outgrown or didn’t play with anymore. 3 1/2 hours later… DONE. The girls had the most fun! They […]

Judge Deborah // Main Street

The Israelites now have their own land. It is divided up among the tribes/states. Each tribe is tasked with driving out the remaining inhabitants of the land. But they fail. Over and over again in the last 10 chapters of Joshua, each tribe fails to dislodge the inhabitants of the land of Canaan. We asked […]

Dividing the Land and Caleb’s Story (story & video)

After a “divide and conquer” campaign, Joshua begins to divide out the Promised Land to the various 12 tribes with the charge to continue to root out the inhabitants of the land. One man, Caleb, one of the original 12 spies, asked Joshua for his inheritance. You see, God promised Joshua and Caleb an inheritance […]

Gibeonite Deception and Rescue (story & video)

After the messup with Achan, the Israelites learned their lesson, right? Well, almost. The peoples of the land of Canaan were afraid…and rightfully so. The Israelites were a conquering force with the God of heaven and earth on their side. The people of Gibeon decided to trick the Israelites, and they did because Joshua and the leaders […]

Fall Lock-In 2010 (video)

Last Friday evening (10.1.10) we had a Lock-In with our middle school students (grades 6-8) from 9:00p-7:00a. Doors opened at 8:30p and after we checked everyone in, we went over the rules of the Lock-In. Here is a run-down of what the evening’s activities were: 9:30p – Dodgeball games 10:30p – Snacks and free time […]

Time-Out

Last night I had to put Macie in time out for some reason. While I was putting her in her crib, Sari said something that Amanda told me when I returned to the kitchen: “I don’t like Daddy, he likes to put things in time-out.”

“I better eat something…”

The other day we were driving in the car somewhere and Sari starts complaining about needing to eat something because she was hungry. We informed her that we didn’t have anything at the moment, to which she replied: “I better eat something or I’ll be dead.”

Abraham – God’s Promise to FIX Humanity

@ msy YOUTH (that’s middle school YOUTH group @ hayward wesleyan) a couple of weeks ago, we talked about Abraham and God starting “to fix this world” back to “his kind of world” – the Garden (before humanity messed it up). God picked a man–Abraham–and promised to make a special people out of him (whose […]
